Rustlers on the 12-yard line decided to go for it on fourth-and-two, but the Pirates stopped them in their tracks. On the 13-yard line, Kyle Manning had a wide open Brandon Estrada and overthrew him slightly.
On the next throw, Manning connected with Estrada for a 15-yard gain and a first down to move into the scoring range.
Manning, on a play action throw, once again had a wide open receiver, but Lano Fuentes dropped a perfectly thrown ball in the end zone.
But the Pirates picked up the first down on an eight-yard pass to Brandon Allen and drew first blood in the West-Coast showdown on a 12-yard run by Ray Holley (pictured, No. 22).
Score is 7-0 with 9:23 o go in the second quarter.
The Rustlers Brandon Grissom returned it to their 40-yard line.
